The Lockdown Tails
When Corona virus spread its roots into India, little did anyone expect what was in store for us. The unprecedented National Lockdown announced on March 24, 2020 was just a teeny tiny beginning to our frustrations.
Being a caninetrovert, and having lived the last decade, almost quarantined from humans, in the company of dogs only, I brushed off the thought of the National Lockdown with a smirk. I have struggled every year to take even a single day off and this seemed an excellent break from my round the hour profession.
As we proceeded into extensions of the lockdown, my hackles began to raise. There was no fright, just sheer exasperation with no work!
Family, friends and even customers, connected regularly, over calls, and am forever grateful to all of them for the concern and consideration, but without my work, I felt loneliness in the real meaning, for the first time. The house felt eerie.
And yet again, it were the dogs who kept my sanity alive and kicking, and shoved away the lonely feeling far far away. Bourbon fortunately had the company of Sherry, and words cannot express how happy I was to have both these girls around. While people were locked up with their human beloveds ( or not) because of the Pandemic, we three were the only brood for each other.
At the time, I had never ever been so proud on my decision to not let go of Bourbon when she came to me as a foster. Thank You YODA !
Dog & the Bone. Most of us have played this game. Try it with your dog next time! Dogs were, of course, Bourbon & Sherry, the Bone of contention was a soft toy. Needless to say that the Dog & the Bone changed to Tug-o-War!
NO PAWS, else that would be cheating!
The girls helped me cook ( Yes! I still hate cooking, but survival mode was on!). The foodies sampled most dishes I made and rejected each and every one of them.
My paintings had the final coat of their fur all over.
They made stealth appearances on my online class and were greeted with Oohs & Awws.
We had costume parties and crawling races.
Gardening was the best workout, with digging and covered with soil all over and being chased for a bath after.
We had spa days, when they outright refused pedicures & manicures.
I threw balls, they chased.
I laughed, they wagged.
I cried, they understood.
I ate, they ate faster.
I wined, they politely declined.
I slept, they snored.
We danced, we cuddled, we kissed!
We loved. We lived.
***Sherry has completed an entire year with us. Adopting this 9 years puppy was one more perfect decision!
